Free tour Marrakech is a short introduction to the large and amazing history of our Medina of Marrakech. The tour starts in Old Town, beginning with the medina quarter of Marrakesh, the 12th century Old Court:
The Kouotobia Mosque : Located near the Djemaa el Fna, is the largest mosque in Marrakesh. It is famed especially for its magnificent minaret, the oldest of the three great Almohad minarets remaining in the world. It is the heart of the city today, and the most important part in centuries past.
Then we will take a walk on the most important street of the old city, which holds history in every corner and holds some of our most important classic buildings. Walking down this street you’ll be able to see Bab Agnaou, meaning the 'gate of the black people', marks the entrance to the kasbah quarter. The kasbah quarter dates from the late 12th century and the reign of the Almohad Sultan Ya'qub al Mansour.Though not as impressive as the tower of the Koutoubia Mosque, the minaret is a notable landmark en route to :
The Saâdian Tombs :The Saâdian Tombs with their delicate decorations and pure architectural lines are considered by many to be a beautiful feat of architecture. They were first built to house the tombs of the Saadian Sultan, Ahmed el Mansour. In 1591 the first “koubba” (dome on the top of a mosque) of this burial ground was built south of the Casbah.
The Bahia Palace :  is one of Marrakech’s most imposing buildings. It was constructed at the end of the nineteenth century, and was intended to be the most impressive palace of all times.
Medersa Ben Youssef : was one of the largest theological colleges in North Africa and may have housed as many as 900 students. One of its best known teachers was Mohammed al-Ifrani (1670-1745).
Closed down in 1960, the building was refurbished and reopened to the public as an historical site in 1982.
The inside of this ancient school is filled with magnificent craftsmanship details from zeillij tiling to incredible stuccowork and beautiful wood carvings.
